Different Religious Expressions With Figurines

Religion is an important part of our society, and around the world. In the homes of many Christians, Catholics, Jews, and Buddhists, there are figurines. These figurines may be different from each other in some ways, but they may all express a common theme: a belief in God. These beliefs are expressed in different ways, and different people are honored for different reasons in these figurines.

Christian Figurines

The most common figurines that may be found in a Christian home might represent the cross, the nativity scene, Jesus, and angels. Jesus is the most highly honored figure in the Christian faith, and it is common for the image of the cross to be displayed as a memory of his death and resurrection. The nativity scene includes the baby Jesus, his mother Mary, and her husband Joseph in a manger. Some more complete sets will have wise men and animals as well. It is most commonly displayed at Christmas time, when the birth of Jesus is celebrated.

Catholic Figurines

In a Catholic home, many of the same images in a Christian home may be found. Jesus is honored as well, and angels may also be displayed. Mary is honored highly, and so figurines of her, besides that of a nativity scene are common. Uniquely Catholic figurines may represent the Pope, nuns, the Saints, and the crucified Jesus on the cross. (Christian images of the cross are without Jesus.)

Jewish Figurines

In a Jewish home, there are images that are quite different. Commonly, figurines in a Jewish home will have the engraved Star of David on them. Figurines of a rabbi, a bar mitzvah boy or a bat mitzvah girl may be displayed. Any figurines of males will have a yamika shown on the head. Jews do not recognize Jesus, therefore there would be no figurines of him.

Buddhist Figurines

Figurines of the Buddha are common as well. There are varied images of the Buddha. Some of them show him as a heavier man, while others show him as a slender man. Most figurines of Buddha will show him sitting with his legs crossed and eyes closed for meditation.

Hindu Figurines

Figurines of many Hindus Gods can be found in Hindu Temples throughout India. Most prominently are Krishna, Radha, Jagganatha, Caitanya, Rama, Vishnu, Laksmi, and Shiva. Often these figurines are placed on a sanctified altar and worshipped daily.

Religious expression comes in many forms. Home decorating is simply one of the ways that people express their faith in God. For Christians Jesus is honored, for Catholics Mary is Honored, and for Jews Moses and God himself are honored. For Buddhists, the Buddha is honored.

Decorating your home and collecting items to make it personal and unique is one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences there are. Most of us enjoy decorating our rooms to reflect who we are so that they become an outward projection of our personalities. This then means that we feel more at home in the environment, and means that we can enjoy feeling more at ease. It also means that the house proud among us can show off our design skills and all the little personal touches we’ve used to make the place unique.

However the difficult part is coming up with what to place in your home and not creating too much clutter and untidiness in an attempt to make it feel individual and fully decorated. One great way to add some personality and a very quaint feel is to look at teapots and tea sets and there are many different designs for teapots and cups available making this an easy way to make your home more personalized.

There are many different teapots and tea sets and while some of these are very traditional and look as though they might be at home in an adaptation of a Jane Austin book, others are far more contemporary and modern and create a very different vibe for your home. For instance you can enjoy a novelty teapot designed to look like a fun character, or to look like another object.

At the same time other modern teapots might have a cool design feature that helps to keep the water hotter, to filter the tea, or with more sizes of cups. These are the kinds of things that when you serve them up you will be bound to get a fun reaction from your guests. On the other hand you can go for the more traditional look which is perfect for entertaining with an afternoon tea – particularly if you have somewhere nice to sit outside. Buy some scones and some jam, and put them out on a table with a tea set outdoors. Traditional looking tea sets might be blue and white china which is highly collectible, or they might be oriental or even antique. You’d be very surprised at just how many different types of teapots and cups there are out there and how many you can collect.

This is a great thing to start a collection of and many people do enjoy owning a collection of tea sets. It might surprise you for instance to learn that martial arts master Jackie Chan has a collection tea sets in his ‘secret hideout’ which takes up a whole wall. You can display these in a glass cabinet where they will be safe and avoid dust, or you can put them away and just get them out for guests.

Finally consider tea sets as a gift – particularly as a housewarming gift. This way you can provide someone with a way to entertain guests, the start of a collection and an activity that everyone loves – drinking tea.

I have started to drink more tea lately and have bought two different pottery teapots. I think it is cool when the teapots and cups match.

Pottery Adds Decorative Flair

This is often overlooked for its decorative appeal with the message often getting lost within its incredible versatility and usefulness. The truth is however, that when it comes to decorating and lending style, pottery is a great way to go when decorating in almost any theme or style of décor. I have found very few rooms in my time in which some style of pottery would not suit the overall design scheme of the room. I would think that there really are very few. Even modern Gothic styled rooms have plenty of appropriate opportunities to use pottery to enhance the theme.

All in all, pottery makes an excellent accent for home décor. The first thing that comes to mind is a pottery vase. These can hold live plants, flowers, fake greenery, or simply contain your prized marble collection out of sight and away from the little ones. They look great standing on the floor, on mantles, and on tabletops in addition to many other places throughout the home. A vase looks good in almost any room and is quite functional while also being quite beautiful depending on the style and artistry of the particular vase in question.

Stoneware plates are great decorative additions and look wonderful on plate rails or on wrought iron plate wracks that are designed to hold them on the wall or on a plate stand on a bookshelf or the mantle. Bowls are another excellent choice for decorating with pottery. They can be functional, holding fruit on a dining room table or kitchen counter tops or they can be simple adornment on a stand, displayed for the world to see, or holding candles arrangements, potpourri, or a collection of interesting and decorative balls. The possibilities are endless and you can change your pottery display to accommodate various seasons if you are so inclined.

Pottery pitchers may also be very decorative rather than merely practical. Rather than holding your lemonade or iced tea you can fill the pitchers with floral arrangement of fresh flowers or a nice silk arrangement. This allows you to showcase the pottery you love rather than keeping it locked in the cabinets and reserved for special occasions that call for yet another pitcher of some cold beverage.
